Phulia 'Mal Acabado' Pét-Nat Loureiro White captures a pivotal moment in Vinho Verde's storied past.

The name—meaning "poorly finished"—references the 18th century when Portuguese winemakers, overwhelmed by English demand for their wines, were forced to ship unfinished expressions across the Atlantic.

Winemaker Rita drew inspiration from this historical narrative to craft a wine that honors tradition while embracing contemporary technique. This Pét-Nat employs the ancestral method, where fermentation occurs naturally in the bottle, creating gentle carbonation without added yeast or sugar.

The grapes themselves—Loureiro—are cultivated using ramadas, the traditional trellising system still prevalent throughout Vinho Verde's vineyards, connecting this wine directly to centuries of regional practice.

What distinguishes this expression is its refined clarity, unusual among Pét-Nats. Rather than the characteristic cloudiness typical of the style, Phulia achieves crystalline transparency by employing only the first juice and selecting must exclusively from the tank's upper layer - a process called racking.

The cork closure—another deliberate choice—further sets this wine apart from conventional bottle-cap Pét-Nats, signaling Phulia's commitment to distinction.

The result is a wine of delicate effervescence, bright citrus aromatics, and refreshing minerality. This is history in a glass, crafted by one of Vinho Verde's most innovative emerging producers—a wine that celebrates ancestral methods while pushing boundaries with thoughtful precision.
