Tuffe is named for tuffeau, the soft chalk under these vines, and that mineral undertow is the signature of the wine. It's Hureau's everyday Saumur-Champigny, a Cabernet Franc blended from many parcels and aged in tank to keep it fresh and unadorned. Chateau du Hureau is among the top names in the appellation, run by fifth-generation vigneron Philippe Vatan and his daughter Agathe. This is honest, drinkable Loire Cab Franc done right. Serve it with a slight chill

A great figure of French winegrowing, former founder of the “Association des producteurs de Saumur-Champigny”, my father Georges departed at the end of 2013, 88 years old.
He was my unqualified support, my irreplaceable counsellor, he was my father and my best friend…a most important page had been turned.
Today, Agathe, my elder daughter is joining the estate. Wonderfull! Once again we shall be 2 Vatans for the 2014 harvest… 300 years after Pierre!

Winemaker's Tasting Notes
From a serious basis of really ripe Cabernet Franc grapes, this is a really serious wine… But which doesn’t take itself too seriously! Its delightful lack of pretention that will please one and all!

Pairs well with a juicy hunk of beef!

90 Points - Wine Spectator
Light notes of cherry, licorice root and plum are ripe and plush, with a silky feel and a subtle waft of alder smoke and tobacco leaf. Dried violet, pepper and sage elements add detail on the firm, incense-kissed finish. Elegant and light on its feet. Drink now through 2027.
