Gemischter Satz 2022 Weingut Pasler 'Evolution'
Gemischter Satz of old vines grown in the cycle of nature on limestone and slate soils that give the wine its complexity and minerality. Fermented spontaneously and aged eleven months on the fine lees in clay egg. Bottled unfiltered!
The Pasler family has been farming vineyards in the limestone rich soils of Austria’s Leithaberg region for generations, but their wines have only just arrived to our shores. ‘Evolution’ is a field blend orange wine of mostly Gelber Muskateller and dollops of Chardonnay and Welschriesling. After extended time on the skins the juice ages in concrete eggs for one year before bottling. The wine offers up exotic floral aromas and stone fruit. The palate is driven by citrus pith, honey and a hint of ginger. Layer upon layer of flavor and texture make this a must try brand new wine!
A feature of Viennese vineyards for centuries, the Gemischter Satz is now experiencing a genuine renaissance. A Gemischter Satz is a wine made from a variety of grapes. In contrast to a cuvee, up to 20 different grape varieties are planted in the same vineyard, and harvested and pressed together. Originally, growers used the varying degrees of ripeness and acidity as a way to ensure consistent quality and guard against the risk of poor harvests.
